The Schengen area comprises 29 countries coverings almost of mainland Europe: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

The Schengen Agreement is a treaty which resulted into the creation of Europe’s Schengen area leading to the abolition of internal border checks. It was signed by five of the ten member states of the European economic community on 14 June 1985 and it was enacted a decade later with all EU countries except UK and Ireland. Later, few countries outside Europe also joined, including Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland. And unfortunately, Britain left the EU recently.

The name Schengen is of the town in southeastern Luxembourg where France, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands signed the original Schengen agreement in 1985.

Yes. As per the Schengen area regulations there are certain visa requirements set by the region to travel. In case you are a UK resident, you will require a visa to travel to any of the Sxhengen countries.

The 90/180 days rule states that you can stay in the Schengen area for three months (90 days) within a half year period (180 days). It is necessary to adhere to the stay validity as overstaying can lead to fine or entry bans.
